ESSAY TITLE Literary devices will be a primary source used to compare and contrast the narrative and stylistic choices made in the short story, â€Å"Harrison Bergeron† by Kurt Vonnegut, and the film 2081 directed by Chandler Tuttle. In the film the director is able to express visuals, sounds, and physical characters, to establish a firm idea of how the characters within the story act and feel based on their surroundings and what is happening around them. The effect of sound and tune on character emotion within the film compli mented the drastic advance of excitement and tension throughout the dance from Harrison and his partner on stage. Not only was it the sound of the radio handicaps that affected the build of tension, but it was also a compilation of background noises which influenced the direction of the readers attention at key moments throughout the film. During the brief cuts to Hazel Bergeron washing the dishes the sound created by the running water drowned out the news reporter and the entire clip of Harrisons display on stage. Hazel was oblivious to the situation presented, thus demonstrating her lack of awareness throughout the entire film. The audiences interpretation of visuals presented in the story will impact the flow of tension, and it affects where viewers make their connections to characters. The two stories have differing points of tension due to visuals created in the readers mind, and appearances for the viewers.
